Tips for kids:

  • Never play with matches or fire
  • Make sure your house has a smoke detector
  • As your family if they will help you come up with a safety plan to get everyone out of the house in case of fire, and so everyone will know where to meet outside.
  • If you see a fire starting, tell an adult and get out right away
  • If the smoke is bad, crawl low to the floor where the air is clearer and cover your mouth until you can get to a door or window
  • When trying to get out of the house during a fire, always check doors with the back of your hand. If the door is hot don't open it, use your back up escape route. If the door is cool, open it slowly and check for dangers before going though
  • If your cloths catch fire, stop, drop, and roll until the fire goes out
  • Never go back inside your house if it's on fire. Wait outside at your family meeting spot.
  • Remember, if there's an emergency, dial 9-1-1 to call for help.
